Following the players throughout the 2023–2024 season, which includes the league’s inaugural high-pressure in-season tournament, Starting 5 goes behind the scenes of Butler’s eccentric forays into music, Tatum’s closeness with his mother and young son, Sabonis’s struggle to be recognized as an all-star, Edwards’s impending fatherhood, and James’s understanding of his son Bronny’s health issues. From start to finish, the Netflix sports series, produced by James’s UNINTERRUPTED in association with Omaha Productions and Higher Ground Productions, focuses an intimate lens on its dynamic subjects and offers insight into the passion and dedication they bring to the basketball court.
