One of the most endearing and love-filled relationships to be showcased on television in recent years is that of Abbey and David, the young couple who meet on the first season of Love on the Spectrum and spark a bond that continues to blossom on the latest season. The series, which spawned from the success of the Australian original, finds singles on the autism spectrum navigating the dating world through coaching sessions, speed-dating rounds, and matchmade dates. When the show expanded into America in 2022, the world was introduced to the magic of Abbey and David. 

In Season 1, the couple quickly bond on their first date at the zoo over their love for animals, specifically lions. David and Abbey’s instantaneous and real connection sent viewers dashing to social media to find out whether they stayed together after their episodes on the series. They had, and two years later they return to Love on the Spectrum for its second season as their story transitions from finding love to deepening it — and even taking on some wild adventures. 

Upon first meeting, David shares that he’s been on a safari where he saw lions in the wild. When Abbey expresses that it’s one of her biggest dreams to travel to Africa, few could have expected the comment would kick-start their journey in Season 2: David whisks Abbey, her mother, and his sisters off on a safari in Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve, and as the couple’s love grows on their expedition, the world falls deeper in love with them. 

While the grand romantic gesture to make Abbey’s deepest wish come true has earned David boyfriend-of-the-year awards from many viewers, it is the simpler things that make Abbey and David’s relationship inspirational: their comfort with each other, their ability to be their full selves together, and the way they help each other grow. Abbey and David epitomize couple goals, and now that the series has been renewed for a third season, we can’t wait to see what other adventures they get up to.
